Preliminary Exercise







My role in the film production: By Muna Hussein
I was the camera women, and edited some parts of the preliminary exercise clip. This was a very challenging task, as it was the most important part of our project; to have clear understanding of camera work such as long shot, close up, medium shot ect.  This was very helpful as it helped me in a way to refresh my understanding in film shots and edit techniques for example 'split clip'. Also i gained experience from this task as it helped me to understand how film production works.


The clip starts of in a classroom with two characters called 'Aisha & Yasmin' having a disagreement with each other, although the conversation is not heard or understand by the audience. Our film does not focus on what the argument is about, we want the audience to imagine what the argument is about. As group we choose to focuss on film shot, body language and sound affect.


The film shot used in the beginning of the clip is medium wide shot; we used this to give the audience an idea of the location which is in a classroom. We used diegetic sound which came from the pupil in the classroom, this added up to the high school theme. Also used high-key lighting, to make it realistic when the characters went outside
Our group choose to experiment with the camera angles;  for example when yasmin walked off and threw the paper we choose to film behind and left side so that the audience can focuss on her body expersions. We faced many challenges one of the hards thing todo was to follow 180 degree rule, however we gained many experience from this premliniary Exercise. Im quite pleased with our preliminary exercise, although i do believe that if we done several different camera shot it would have been better.


My role in the preliminary exercise-  Aisha Aden



My role in the film production: I was an actress and edited some part of the preliminary exercise. This was a big role which i would have need to put all my effort because my group were relying on me.  Yasmin and i were having and argument and this caused. What happened was not really important the point of the preliminary exercise was to teach me how shots worked and what shorts of shots would work in a particular scene.  

I learned how it felt to be in front of the camera rather then to be behind it and experienced what it would be like if I was in a movie production. I have also learned who to edit a movie clip such as slip clip which would make the clip slip in two, and how to put specific sounded on a clip; From website called garage band. I also learned many camera shots which would be used in a movie and the difference between them.

The film exercise allowed me to have an idea of how it would be like to work in a film production and what sort of thing would i be dealing with. Its allows me to see and expressions who a film is produced in a film industry.

   
My Role in the preliminary exercise- Yasmin Ismail 

in the process of making the preliminary exercise ,i gave in some ideas based on how me and my group should explore different camera direction and position and how we could make editing better and more efficient .some of the ways we did this was :
we worked together on how we should consider the minuets of filming.We also worked on how the camera lighting would be preferred to natural light .


In the preliminary exercise me and my group has come across many problems with camera work and positioning but we learnt from are mistakes .We decide to experiment with camera angles ,like when we were filming the main character ,we didn't film from sides but from behind and below ,because we wanted to give it the effect of an angry person ,whom didn't want to show the face because in the preliminary we filmed  two girls having  argument .We had some difficulty with not breaking the 180 degree rule but we ended up learning and analyzing what best way to capture an argument.I believe if we had done more different captures that the preliminary exercise would be much different .
story board : the exercise is about two students getting into an argument about a piece of essay they were writing .The first student (in the green scarf )throws the paper and walks off in frustration .In the next few clips we then view her walking into a sort of trap,were we do a double camera effect to show her face in worry and then the other student come from a distance (long shot).
